What is the Society?
The Ontario Society of Professional Engineers is the voice of engineers and engineering in Ontario. We advance the professional and economic interests of our members by working with governments, offering leading-edge professional development and valued member services. We take a special interest in student matters in that we believe that the engineers of tomorrow are an important part of the profession and should have a voice in determining its future.
Is the Society the same as Professional Engineers Ontario (PEO)?
The Society is a separate organization from PEO. We
are the advocacy and member services body for the profession,
while PEO is the licensing body and regulatory authority
for professional engineers in Ontario. The Society's
main focus is to advance the professional and economic
interests of our members, while all engineers who wish
to seek and maintain a license must do so through PEO.Why should I join the Society?
When you join the Society as a student member, you will open a lot of doors to the future of your profession. And you can also make your life a lot easier while you study to become an engineer.
There are immediate benefits to joining the Society.
As a student member, you can access low rates on such
student essentials as cellular phone service, PCs and
much more through our Engineersfirst service. We can
also help you find that all-important summer job or
work placement through our Career Centre and put your
resume in front of hundreds of different engineering
employers across the province.
Student membership in the Society
lets you ease into the ranks of engineering while you're
still in school, giving you information on the profession
and letting you network with established professionals.
By joining the Society, you're indicating to employers
and other engineers that you're serious about your future
- so join
today!
How much does membership cost?
The Society's student membership costs $25 per
year. For that fee, you access the same programs
and services available to our professional members -
including job listings, resume posting and low rates
on products and services like cellular phone service,
travel packages and personal computers.
Our professional members pay $125 (includes GST) for
their annual membership. In recognition of the importance
of students to the profession and the fact that many
face rising tuition and related expenses, we offer students
the same access to Society services - but for a lower
fee.
How do the discount products and services work?
The Society offers great rates on important products
and services for the province's engineers through our
engineersfirst
member services program. We're able to negotiate such
attractive deals because we represent a large number
of professional engineers across Ontario. In return
for the ability to market their products to such a large
group of professionals, suppliers offer special discounts
and incentives to attract our members. So, by joining
the ranks of the thousands of Society members, you benefit
from their buying power. From low-cost Internet access
and cellular service packages to insurance and sports
and entertainment tickets, engineersfirst
has it all.
engineersfirst
is a permission-based program. Once you join, it's up
to you whether you receive information on the products
and services. |
